Super Mario Brothers

Super Mario Bros. The Movie: Was A 50 Million dollar kiddy movie. It was a blast to work on even if most of the work I did was cut out I felt I had done some really good work. But I heard after my make-ups were shot that they were deemed way to scary and did not fit in with the rest of the goofy feel of the movie. Hey what ever.

It was basically a prosthetic unit that wasn't supposed to exist. I engineered both a two-stage DE-evolution of a man to a chimpanzee and a creature I nick named Horny Toad because of the horns on the back of it's head but it was also kinda a Dragon Man as well, cause of some influences for the detailing on the Dragon Slayer Dragon that I incorporated into the make-up. It was also a kinda nod to Louis Gosset, Jr. Character, the Drac from the 1985 film "Enemy Mine." The Mario world is reptilian, with a lot of lizard people, so I figured there would be some sort of descendant of the Drac.

The transformation from man into chimp was for when an evil character named Scarpelli is hit with a DE-evolution gun and resorts back to his first descendants.

This was the first movie believe it or not that used a great deal of CGI creatures, morphs, and backgrounds more then any other movie. It came out just before Jurassic Park. But was not recognized for this cause the movie was such a flop.

Either way I had a blast partying, playing pool with Dennis Hopper and living near the beach in North Carolina and doing some cool make-ups.
